July 2007

July 22, 2007

I finally had an opportunity to visit our Farmers Markets Saturday. The produce is overflowing the baskets and those who come to showcase their crafts have done a wonderful job. We have two of these great venues, one at the High School off of Chestnut Street and the other in the Municipal Parking lot just north of the city parks "uptown". When you are in Oxford on a Saturday make a point to visit either or both of these great markets, they open at 8 A M and generally are open till noon.

We celebrate Porsche over the weekend of July 27th and 29th. There will be 400+ of these beautiful cars on display along High Street and our town is gearing up for a weekend of viewing, dreaming and realxation in Oxford.  To view a video of the 2006 event  go to  Porches2Oxford

Time Away

We ran away from "The Farm" for a few days.

We started out at our favorite Book store and ended up at our favorite Produce Farm. In between we went to The Wilds. The Wilds is located in Southeastern Ohio and is located on 1000 acres of reclaimed strip mine land. The do a fantastic job of animal management and breeding of endangered species. Truly a wonderful endeavor! www.thewilds.org

Marietta Ohio was our destination and we awoke on our first morning there with the American Queen docked at the levee. A lovely sight with the sun rise coming up over that beautiful boat. Marietta has come alive since our last visit there. In spite of being flooded on a regular basis by the Ohio River the downtown is vibrant!

Our last stop before picking up Duke at the 'Dogie Spa' was to stop at Barn n Bunk for some produce. Oh the tomatoes were so good. After a winter of plastic ones they tasted like manna. Our time away was good, but there is no place like home. See what we mean at www.maplevale.com
