Dog Days

Dog Days of Summer in Oxford are too much even for Duke. We are at least under 100 degrees and it looks like we will stay in the double digits for a while. We have only gotten .52 inches of rain in August and when you couple that will the raging heat the crops and yards are all drying up. We are truly an arid section here in Southern Ohio and to think there have been Ohio towns in the North part of the state under water.

Oxford's Summer Music Festival came to a close last night. The signaling of fall. Miami won it's first football game this week, a one point squeeker. ESPN will be in Oxford quite a few times during this football season, so we anticipate a good year for our Redhawks. The U C/ Miami game, the second longest rivalary in the country, opens our home stand on the 15th of September.

Wow we have heated up

101, literally, in the shade and the parents of the incoming M U Students gave 'Sweating to the Oldies' a new definition last week. The 16,000 students who spend 3/4 of the year with us brought heat and humidity back to Oxford with them. It was hard to see their parents say good bye and move them into their homes/ dorm rooms under these horrific conditions. Saying good bye and going home to an empty house is difficult enough, in the best of times. Non the less Oxford has again doubled it's population with youngsters who certainly have way more energy than we do and who bring a vitality to the town that is simply wonderful.

Our Music Festival is winding down with the annual Pig Roast being held this Thursday evening. A wonderful way to end the Summer in Oxford. A tradition that dates back some 20 years.

My Dulcimer group played a concert at Sharon Woods, A Hamilton County Park, last Sunday and it was 92 that day. Even the Canadian Geese left us for shade and what little water they could find. We did manage to cut through the haze with some pretty good renditions of some great traditional tunes and a trip to the Root Beer Stand afterwards made it worth while.

The Dog Days of Summer are sure with us and the leaves are falling........... Football Season is almost here!
